Rolex’s use of green all started in 2003 as they marked the Submariner’s 50th anniversary with the Rolex “Kermit” ref. 11610V, boasting a green aluminum bezel and the first modern Maxi dial within the watch series. Combine the 2008 “Super Case”/”Maxi Dial” 116610 Sub with a green bezel and a green dial, and you’re one fateful nickname away from a gamma-burst of Rolex collector infatuation.
Then A few years later in 2010, Rolex released the Rolex Hulk ref. 116610V which was their first timepiece with a green bezel and dial. Today, this reference is recognized as a big, green, and mean luxury sports watch that adds color and flair to the Submariner catalog—plus, after only a decade, it’s already a collector phenomenon and fan favorite. Rolex is known for experimenting with different dial colors, but the Hulk stands out as one of its staples.
It seems like all of five minutes passed between the LV’s Basel ’10 reveal and its transformation from Bruce Banner decorum to raucous radioactive myth.
How did I find my way to the Rolex Submariner Hulk? Well when I first got into “nice watches” a few years ago, I was attracted to the aesthetics of dive watches. After hanging around watch forums for some time, I found out about the Rolex submariner and I immediately fell in love. I finally bought one a year later which was the 114060 A.K.A the modern “no date” submarineror it’s even just called the submariner. It was the most expensive and the nicest watch that I had ever owned.
Fast forward a few years and I managed to get one. I wore it for a few weeks straight. The dial is just mesmerizing to look at under bright sunlight but my favourite shade of the dial is when it looks deep green under lower lighting. This watch is all about the dial.
Just a quick rundown on the rest of the watch. It is the most iconic dive watch with a solid bracelet, great bezel action and pretty good lume. A game changing slidelock micro adjust system on the clasp. I wish the 3135 movement had a longer power reserve but I can live with that. If there’s a watch that I would pick as my only watch for the rest of my life, the Rolex Submariner Hulk would be it. Oh and it looks great on a white rubber strap too!

Despite the logo's symbolic attempt to talk me off a ledge, I have to admit, this one took some getting used to. The minute numerals at the five minute marks, the white gold 3-6-9 Arabic numerals, the yellow Crown, and green "Rolex" and green seconds hand seemed, for the first few hours that I wore the watch, like a bunch of ill-assorted lifeboat passengers who, thanks to a random twist of fate, were all going to have to learn to get along with each other, or else.
Out of the nine new Rolex Submariner watches for 2020, the new generation 41mm-wide Rolex Submariners with the updated 3235 family of movements also includes some precious metal varieties.
Rolex has now fitted the Submariner with its modern generation caliber 3235 automatic movement which features the time with an instant-adjust date window.
Both the 126618LB in blue and 126618LN in black have Cerachrom ceramic bezel inserts. The dials are the standard Submariner in design, but I believe that in the future, Rolex may once again offer these watches with diamond hour markers (at least a partial set of them).
