The Pepsi also received Rolex’s newest movement, the 3285. The big change here was an increase to 70 hrs power reserve. This really is a welcome improvement. I can now put down the watch on Friday night, and pick it up Monday morning knowing it will be on time and running. The increase in power reserve does come with some changes to the movement itself, which do effect the winding of the watch. This is not a very satisfying watch to wind, it must be said. It has a slightly gritty and hollow feel, which was off-putting at first, but I’ve grown used to it. Just different than previous GMT’s I’ve owned.
The Jubilee bracelet can feel a bit flashy at first, but once on the wrist, its easily forgotten as the comfort rating is so high. It’s easily the most comfortable watch bracelet I own. I’ve heard tale of people changing their bracelet to one procured from a Sub, and while I think that looks great, it really isn’t the same watch without its defining ‘5-link’ star.
This is a watch that I wear regularly, and it has aged with elegance. It does everything I need it to do, and nothing I don’t. Do mind that polished centre on the clasp though, it’s a scratch magnet!
As it is with many new Rolex watches, the hot fuss regarding these two models is something only seasoned brand followers will notice. In fact, these watches are so similar to existing Rolex 126710 GMT-Master II watches (debut in 2018 on aBlogtoWatch here) that they share the exact same reference number of their sister watches, which are the exact same but come on Rolex Jubilee bracelets. Now Rolex offers the GMT-Master 126710 BLRO (red and blue “Pepsi” dial) and 126710BLNR (black and blue “Batman” dial) on either the matching Rolex Oystersteel Jubilee bracelet or the iconic three-link Oyster bracelet. This has two interesting effects I will discuss below.
Rolex GMT Pepsi Review
The king of watchmaking, Rolex, has produced some popular watches over time but the Rolex GMT Pepsi is special. Since its inception in 1988, the Rolex GMT Pepsi has pushed itself into the brand’s story. When this watch was released, the popularity for it boomed. True to the brand’s DNA, this aviation tool watch quickly gained popularity with pilots and world travelers alike. So much so that we still see amazing Rolex GMT Pepsi vintage watches in great shape.
Fast forward 30 years and we are now looking at the modern version, reference 126710BLRO. This reissue, Rolex GMT Master II Pepsi, comes with an upgraded movement, ceramic bezel, and jubilee bracelet.
Since it’s re-release in stainless steel, the Pepsi is one of the most unattainable Rolex models today. I would argue that it’s even harder to find at an authorized dealer than a stainless steel Daytona.

Rolex 3285 Movement

Pepsi GMT Bezel
The most icon part of the Rolex Pepsi GMT is the bezel. The primary reason why this watch got its nickname is because of the GMT that preceded it. Before the Pepsi GMT was released there as a black and red bezel reference that got the nickname “Coke” so it’s just natural that the blue and red reference received the nickname “Pepsi”.
What’s interesting is that both the vintage Pepsi and the current references, have included many variations of blues and reds with the Pepsi GMT. Some command larger values than others like the red references that have more a purple tint to them.
Rolex has done a great job with the current bezel for the Pepsi GMT reference 126710BLRO. What makes the bezel special is they have blended the intersection of where the blue and the red meet. This has lead to the blue and the red being more similar than contrasting which some love and other not, but it’s a major feat of engineering none the less.
Case & Jubilee Bracelet
The 126710BLRO is suited with a very well fitted 40mm stainless steel case. If you read owner reviews of the newer Rolex Pepsi GMT, most will say how comfortable this watch is to wear. Part of the reason is because not only the case design but also the jubilee bracelet. Personally I have been wearing the jubilee bracelet for almost two years and I can honestly say that it’s the most comfortable bracelet I’ve ever worn.
The 40mm case is made of 904L steel and is 13mm thick. It's a nice size for everyday use and not as thick as the Rolex Sea-Dweller or Deepsea watch The front of the case and lugs on this model use a satin/brushed finish with polished bevels and edges and crown guards. The crown is also polished and uses a patented Triplock locking system ensuring that the crown screws-down to the oyster case. This, along with the screwed-down solid steel case back locks the crown and tightens the case with the same security as a submarine hatch allowing for an up to 1000ft / 300m water resistance rating.
